SYR x Albino & Preto Gi Review
Shoyoroll x Albino and Preto Batch 25.b Review
Albino & Preto marks their return to the scene with a double label gi that was released only at the 2013 IBJJF Mundials. You had to be in line for the release that was let loose upon the Pyramid in Long Beach at 12:25 pm on Saturday.
The most important thing about this gi is that it was a collaboration between Shoyoroll and Albino & Preto. Both companies said that this was a one off release and would probably never happen again.
They handed out stickers that were numbered on the back and had one of Shoyorolls right hand mans name, “Roach” written on as well. Kinda like the golden ticket from Three Floyds brewing company, “Dark Lords Day”. You get the ticket in order to purchase the gi.
Considering that these gi’s were only available for purchase at the IBJJF Mundials this is more of a review/preview for what’s to come from A&P this year. It’s my understanding that this release was limited to about 100 for the black version of this gi.
They randomly handed out special gi’s that only a few people got. They had a heat transfer SYR logo on the bag and were titled “hunts”. If you got one then you were very lucky. This is one of the lucky hunt gi’s.
I’m not sure how many hunt gi’s there were though as that info wasn’t released.
What did it mean to receive a hunt gi? Keep reading and you’ll find out.
Before we get started..
After the first batch that Albino and Preto released i know what you’re thinking. They released a product that definitely had some flaws and then went into what seemed like hiding and not returning emails or FB posts regarding their gi’s.
A few people were hugely disappointed, but not everyone had this experience. Unfortunately I was one of the people who ordered that batch and had the displeasure of being on the receiving end of said problems, but I was willing to give them another shot and will not focus on previous negative experiences and move forward with a clear and unbiased head towards A&P and Shoyoroll, as I do with any and all companies I review.
Not gonna lie, the second I got it I was super excited. Usually they put out nice batches for Worlds only releases and I was finally there for my first Mundials to pick this thing up.
Gollum is the only word to describe it.
- 450 GSM Pearl Weave Jacket
- Black with green contrast stitching
- Custom shoulder reinforcement A&P pattern
- Custom SYR x A&P seam tape
- Yellow and Green logos
Super well made jacket. It’s rare you find contrast stitched gi’s with straight stitching. This gi has that and with the one hiccup in stitching everything is spot on with perfection. No loose weave threads or loose stitches. I have to say they really outdid themselves with this batch.
- 10 oz Ripstop Cotton
- Black with green contrast stitching
- Custom SYR x A&P Seam Tape
- Custom A&P inner gusset
- 6 loop drawstring system
Pants….I’m starting to like certain pants more and more. I LOVE ripstop pants. I love the feel, the way they fit, how they don’t shrink as much. These pants are no exception. They fit perfectly and I know they will always fit perfectly because they’re not going to shrink but maybe an inch over time.
All seams are in top notch shape and there don’t seam to be any weak points with the pants.
Doesn’t gather excess sweat, lightweight combo of ripstop pants and jacket cause you to move freely without being weighted down. Grips are easily breakable and the sleeves don’t stretch out an excessive amount while damp and rolling.
Trust me when I say that I looked over this gi the hardest i’ve ever looked at one because of who it’s made by. Like I said before I had a negative experience last time but this time the experience was super positive
We all know what to expect with a Shoyoroll gi. If the gi fits you then you will always want another one. It’s hard to find that gi that just fits you like a glove but when you find it then you know. That gi for me is a Shoyoroll. Given that this was a collaborative effort with Albino & Preto then I’m curious how A&P will go with their next kimono.
I have owned over 13 Shoyoroll gi’s and all of them have been of super great quality. This gi is of no exception and will probably be my main competition gi from now on.
I’m hoping that Albino and Preto‘s future release this year is as quality as this gi. They really paid attention to detail on the batch and clearly made a statement with this kimono.
After talking to the guys they are extremely excited about the future of the company since giving it a “re-birth” and under going some changes. They’re very driven to not make the same mistakes as before and have a very direct mission when it comes to the future of Albino & Preto.
I am looking forward to seeing what they have coming down the pipe as it is shaping up to be very promising.
The reward of finding a HUNT gi…
Besides having the heat transfer logos on the the gi instead of the woven patches like the non hunt kimonos, finding these hunts meant you got the opportunity to complete the set in white!!!
And of course I did in fact complete the set…. The white gi review is here
