While there are a few Datsusara bag review on the web, we didn’t see one for the C.E.B. Needing a messenger style of bag anyway we decided we should invest in this one to see how it held up.

Datsusara is the leader in Hemp Gear bags (gear bags period in our opinion) They’ve got several different bags for all your practical uses. Big bags, small bags, back packs, and messenger bags. Need a bag to carry all of your MMA equipment to class? They’ve got it. Need a bag for school? Covered. Want a general bag to carry all your random nick nacks? Done.

All of their bags are made of REAL hemp. If you don’t know the benefits of having real hemp for products in our market then I suggest you do some research.

Here is an informative picture brought you by none other than Datsusara!!!

 Datsusara bag review

If you like the messenger style of bag then you’ll love the Datsusara Covert Emissary Bag (CEB for short). The outside flap is secured by two plastic snaps. It also features two zippered pockets, a water resistant zipper that extends across the flap so you can reach all the inside pockets without unsnapping the main locks, and the first part of the neoprene padded handle to carry the bag. A small Datsusara logo is embroidered on the front and a place to put a DS vinyl Velcro patch.

There is also PALS webbing lining the front of the flap to attach a seemingly endless amount of products.

The sides of the CEB are also lined with PALS webbing, and also have flaps for the detachable shoulder strap. The straps plastic locking mechanism is free floating so the shoulder strap shouldn’t ever get twisted up, and also features a sliding neoprene sleeve to ease the tension on your shoulder when wearing.

The inside of the Datsusara CEB features two extra large compartments that can store up to a 17″ laptop in each one, a large Velcro outer pocket, a medium size zippered outer pocket, and two smaller Velcro pockets as well. The medium pocket features a vinyl Datsusara patch that is detachable.

The back of the CEB features a large embroidered DS logo and the second handle.

All in all, this is quite possibly the most perfect messenger bag out there. It’s rugged enough for the college student who needs years of day to day use yet stylish enough for a business person to take to a meeting.

With all of the pockets you can fit almost anything you would need for a school or business setting and the shoulder strap distributes the weight of the bag evenly to ensure there isn’t a lot of strain on the neck or shoulder area.

I’ve looked at other messenger bags and the price is in the medium range. A lot of the cheaper bags have way less pockets and features and honestly, don’t look very good quality wise. Will they get the job done? Probably. Will they last as long? Probably not.

The more expensive ones are higher end designer, couture types of bags that you’re paying more for the name obviously. Are they better quality? I’m not sure.

Go check out the Datsusara website and see the plethora of bags they have, you’re almost guaranteed to find one you like.

Pros

  • Strong reinforcements
  • Heavy Duty zippers
  • Hemp material
  • Two main compartments
  • A good number of storage pockets
  • Inside pockets easily accessible without unclipping main flap

Cons

  •  None at this time

Comparison

The Covert Emissary Bag can’t really compare to another bag in my experience. It’s more sturdy than others that are on the market at this time and have more features compatible with the day to day things you would use with this type of a bag.

Price – $89.95 (USD)

More Detailed Review

I’m sort of clumsy sometimes and this bag has definitely been tested from random objects hitting it, dogs carrying it off, and general tom foolery.

The padded front flap and bottom do a great job of protecting the inner items from random kicks or drops. The two zipper pockets on the front are also a nice and come in handy when needing to throw smaller to medium sized objects in quickly.

All zippers on the bag are very sturdy and extremely high quality. Some bags zippers are flimsy and get caught up on the littlest of things (I’m looking at you DOM, terrible zippers) not these though. You can tell DS went the extra mile in ensuring that you get quality zippers instead of short changing the customer. The water resistant zipper on the front flap is an awesome added feature.

The material is made from hemp and heavy, but not overly heavy. It’s thick and goes through the daily ins and outs with ease. I’ve washed the bag with no problems just to see how it did and of course it did fine.

All of the plastic pieces are seemingly high quality and show no signs of wear throughout the last few months of daily use.

All of the reinforcements are still sturdy, no loose strings or pulling apart at the seems. The PAL webbing is also showing no signs of wear and the Velcro is strong and is holding steady.
